October 22, 2024 – The City of Pittsburgh recently announced the temporary closing of the Panther Hollow Bridge based on the recommendation of PennDOT and the inspection consultant. The City stated, ‘We will be closing the bridge as a public safety measure. Any necessary repairs will be made upon the completion of further analysis.’
The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is fully aware of the situation, in communication with the City, and awaiting the results of the inspection. We appreciate the great working relationship we have had since 1983, and together, we have overcome many logistical issues to continue our internationally acclaimed race event supporting local autism charities.
We are moving forward with our planning for the July 19 – 20, 2025 Race Weekend events. As we learn more, we will share with our racers, participants and partners.
The 640-foot Panther Hollow Bridge was built in 1896 and rehabilitated as recently as 1999. The bridge is crucial to our event, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh and city traffic throughout the Oakland and Squirrel Hill neighborhoods.
The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Motorsport Festival was recently recognized by the International Historic Motoring Awards as one of the world’s top five Motorsport Events. It remains one of Pittsburgh’s largest summer festivals, with a multi-million dollar economic impact on the local economy.
About the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix
Founded in 1983, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Motorsport Festival features two weekends of racing action. The first weekend is the PVGP Historics at Pittsburgh International Race Complex. The second weekend is racing through a 2.33-mile road course set on the streets of Schenley Park. Between our race weekends, we stage car shows, parties, road rallies, a black-tie formal, a new Garden Party at Phipps and a Driver Reception. The PVGP is driven by 1,200 volunteers dedicated to staging the country’s largest and longest-running vintage race event. It is also a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with a mission to provide residential care, treatment and support for people with autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities – donating $6.7 million.
