The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, in partnership with the North Hills Sports Car Club, is hosting a relaxed, low-pressure Autocross event during their Historic Race Weekend at Pittsburgh International Race Complex on Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13. Presented by Ghost Energy—a premium lifestyle brand of dietary supplements and sports nutrition products

The driving event takes place on the Vehicle Dynamics Area (VDA), a wide, open, paved space designed for precision driving at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex.

Autocross is a timed driving competition in which drivers navigate a cone-marked course, testing their car control, precision, and agility. This low-speed, high-skill motorsport is safe and accessible for beginners while offering a rewarding challenge for experienced drivers.

“Our club has a long history of members volunteering with the PVGP, so we couldn’t be more excited to be partnering up this year to bring a more accessible opportunity to participate in the motorsports portion of the PVGP—as well as bring some new volunteers into the organization,” said Matt Simmons, vice president of the North Hills Sports Car Club.

This is an excellent opportunity for seasoned autocrossers to get quality seat time and for newcomers to experience the thrill of motorsport in a welcoming, beginner-friendly environment.

The cost is just $25 per session, in addition to standard gate admission. Drivers may enter the facility in their vehicles and will be directed to a designated parking area near the VDA after their runs, allowing them to stay and enjoy the vintage racing action on the track, featuring big-bore muscle cars, open-wheel Formula Fords, and the Triumph-MG Challenge.

Each session includes a quick car tech inspection and a track walk-through. Sessions are limited to 50 participants and scheduled as follows:

• Saturday, July 12: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
• Saturday, July 12: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
• Sunday, July 13: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
• Sunday, July 13: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

This event offers a perfect blend of grassroots motorsport fun and the spirit of the Grand Prix. There’s more than just spectating—take part in the action with race car lunch rides, autocross sessions, and karting. Special spectator parking areas and on-site activities make it a full-throttle experience for fans of all ages. The VDA or skid pad as it is also known, is at the entrance to the track at Pittsburgh International Race Complex, 201 Penndale Road, Wampum, PA 16157

The club was started in 1957 when it began running Gymkhana events in the parking lot of the North Park Swimming Pool. They still do it today and average over 100 drivers at every event!  Their Autocross season runs on Sundays in the spring and fall when the pool is closed. The club also supports the PVGP with a weekend car show on the golf course. Learn more about the NHSCC
