May 26, 2022 – The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix’s first family, the Pattersons, will be featured on KDKA’s FAN N’ATION show this weekend.
Alan Patterson was one of the founding fathers of the PVGP back in 1983. He was the PVGP Race Director and a well-known racer his entire life until his passing June 30 2017. Many of the planning meetings for the PVGP in 1982 and 1983 were held in Alan’s Shadyside garage. That garage is the unofficial PVGP museum and is still loaded with race cars that compete up the road in Schenley Park each July.
Alan’s son Alan III has kept Patterson Racing going since his father’s passing and races with four other Pattersons: his daughter Abby and his cousin Peter and his children Spencer and Kelsey. All five plan to race in Schenley Park on July 23/24 as the PVGP celebrates its 40th anniversary.
KDKA visited the Patterson garage earlier this week to film a segment that will air Saturday, May 28 at 7:30 PM on KDKA TV and later that night on the CW at 11:00 PM. You can also catch it after this weekend online

Legends of Schenley Park
Alan III will be racing in his 15th PVGP at Schenley Park this summer, which qualifies him to join the Legends of Schenley Park along with his father who raced there 34 times and his cousin Peter who reached 15 races last year! Kury Byrnes of Upper St. Clair and Tom Dick of Winchester, VA can join Alan this year as legends. Learn more about the Legends and see the entire list of Legends.

About the PVGP
Begun in 1983, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is entering its 40-year and features two weekends of racing action. The first weekend is the PVGP Historics at Pitt Race. The second weekend is racing on a 2.33-mile road course set on the streets of Schenley Park, a city park adjacent to the Carnegie Mellon and University of Pittsburgh campuses. Between the race weekends there are car shows, parties, car shows road rallies, and more. PVGP is a volunteer-run event with 1,200 volunteers. The PVGP is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with a charity mission and has raised $6 million for the Autism-Pittsburgh and Merakey Allegheny Valley School for individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism.
