April 2, 2018 – The 2018 Kastner Cup will be contested during the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix’s Historics at Pitt Race Complex in Beaver, PA. The races are held on the July 6-8 weekend, launching a 10-day motorsport celebration throughout the region.
Triumphs will race within their race groups throughout the weekend, culminating with the Kastner Cup race, a Triumph only feature race on Saturday afternoon.
“This will be the 16th running of the Kastner Cup, bringing Triumph TR’s, GT6 and Spitfires together for a national race.” said Jim Dolan, 2018 Kastner Cup event chairman. “Pitt Race is an exciting 2.8 mile track with great elevation changes, fast sections and big runoff areas. Drivers who race in the Kastner Cup can race the following weekend through the streets of Schenley Park – vintage racing like it was in the late 50’s, hay bales and all” said Dolan.
The Kastner Cup was founded to honor R. W. “Kas” Kastner, a well-known production car racer in the late 1950’s. He capped it off in 1959 when he won the SCCA Championship and was Class Champion of the California Sports Car Club behind the wheel of his 1958 TR3A Triumph.
Kas is geared up for the PVGP saying “it is an honor to bring together these great cars and their drivers. The mix of camaraderie and competition remains as strong today as when we raced these great cars in the 60’s & 70’s. I am looking forward to another exciting event.”
Pitt Race is the ideal venue for racing Triumphs and historic sports cars. The purpose-built track, 40 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, was expanded in 2015, adding 1.2 miles that stretches the entire circuit out to 2.8 heart pounding miles.
Pitt Race marketing director, Dominic Cincotta describes the full track layout best, “the North Track was always considered a horsepower circuit without a lot of technical aspects to it. The new South Track adds the technical aspects with a lot of elevation change and blind turns – you’ll have to hold onto the steering wheel pretty tight. When you look at the new circuit as a whole, it’s got something for everyone including 19 turns within 2.8 miles. It’s on natural terrain with an 85-foot elevation change. You’ll never get bored with it. It’s always going to be challenging.”

Race Week
The PVGP Historics in Beaver County are just the beginning of a 10-day motorsport extravaganza that moves into Pittsburgh throughout the week with car shows, parades, parties and ends with Race Weekend in Schenley Park on July 14/15 where more than 100,000 spectators walk the car show on the golf course and watch the vintage races through the city streets – the only race of its kind in this country.

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association’s mission is to stage a world class vintage automobile race to raise funds for individuals with autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities in the Pittsburgh region. Since 1983 the PVGP has donated over $5 million dollars to the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Merakey Allegheny Valley School.
